The 90-metre waterfall, the highest in the Aude, is formed from streams on the Sambrès plateau. It rolls down several steep slopes, 35 metres of which are visible from the viewpoint.

Energy to spare? Join us for a 2h to 2h30 hike around the 4 castles of Lastours.

Lastours is an impressive archaeological site with its four castles (Cabaret, Tour Régine, Surdespine, Quertineux) perched on a rocky base, and its medieval village, Castrum de Cabaret, nestling in the valley.

The tour is divided into two stages: a panoramic view from the Belvedere, then access to the monuments via a pathway from the former textile mill.

You can then head back down to the village of Montolieu, where one of the 5 restaurants will offer you a well-deserved break. You can then head north of the village for the Moulin de La Dure hike along paths that trace the history of Montolieu and its mills. Although the mills are no longer visible, you’ll be enchanted by the view of the Pyrenees, the woodland paths and the banks of the Dure and Alzeau rivers. A short detour will take you to the Pont de L’Izoule, testimony to the incessant traffic of another era.

Other hikes are available not far from Montolieu, including L’abbaye de Villelongue, Moussoulens and its garrigue, and a little further afield in Aragon…
